Horizon Forbidden West is one of the most anticipated games of 2022, launching in an already stacked February alongside other great games like Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Sifu, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, and more. It will be interesting to see how all of these games go together in this way, but there may be lags between now and then. Nonetheless, Horizon Forbidden West is gearing up for release.
Now, fans know how big the file size of Horizon Forbidden West is when it launches on PS5, which also gives a ballpark figure for PS4. Games only tend to get bigger, so it should come as no surprise that the game is absolutely massive.
Not counting the day one patch, the Horizon Forbidden West PS5 download size is 96,350GB. What’s included in day one patch remains to be seen, but you likely have one that pushes that size to over 100GB. Some games in the database are noted to have larger sizes than when released on the console, usually between 10-20GB, but this means that it is still more than 70GB and it still pushes that 100GB mark not is out of the question. The PS5 file size is likely in the same area, although the exact difference has not been confirmed.

Fortunately, Horizon Forbidden West can be preloaded all week before its release. The Horizon Forbidden West release date is February 18, and preloads will begin on February 11. Whether you intend to play it on PS4 or PS5, hopefully that will be enough time to make sure there is enough free space on either console. Horizon fans will want to consider the other games as well, if any of them catch their eye.
PS5 SSDs are getting easier to come by, to say the least. There’s a lot to choose from, from 500GB to 2TB options. One vendor, Seagate, has a PS5 SSD that is 4TB in size, but costs twice as much as a PS5 disk version at retail price. There is also, of course, the option to remove games that have already been expired, but the size of the games continues to increase and supply / demand comes into play in the future, it will be interesting to see how these prices change.
Either way, it’s not a long wait until Horizon Forbidden West premieres, and fans will be back to take on the role of Aloy. Her adventure leads her to the title, Forbidden West, and it is sure to be epic from there.
