Game news Paw Patrol Saves the Great Valley: The Must-See Platform Game For Kids?
Paw Patrol is an animated series that first aired in 2013. Created by Keith Chapman, a British screenwriter who specializes in youth programming, this creation is a true child phenomenon and has won the hearts of our toddlers time and time again. And inevitably the video game could not avoid it …
AN ATTACHED UNIVERSE
Licensee since 2018, publisher Bandai Namco regularly offers video game adaptations from Paw Patrol. To date there have been three episodes and if we decided to go back to last year’s episode it is because it just joined the Game Pass catalog. As in the cartoon, we follow the adventures of a group of dogs performing civilian missions and led by a little boy named Ryder. The head of the group plans the assignments of his loyal companions from the HQ.
COOPERATION and ACTION
Paw Patrol Saves the Big Valley is a platform game for young children. It’s a mix of action and exploration and consists of seven levels with two to four pups. In order to overcome the obstacles, the player switches between the characters in order to use their different abilities (smell, destruction, water lance etc.). But it’s also possible to have fun by bringing in a second player! The gradient is very l inear and mostly boils down to picking up treats and badges. From time to time racing sequences are offered to stimulate the adventure, but the whole thing is deliberately kept very simple.
EXPRESS THE SUPERPOWERS A LITTLE
Compared to its predecessor, the game relies on the Super Patrol, a kind of exaggerated version of the Doggies! Unfortunately, the developers opted for frozen sequences rather than incorporating these superpowers into the heart of the adventure. As a result, the puppies use their superdoggie skills in the middle or at the end of the level, which, however, result in completely drowsy QTE phases. So these sequences are not only uninteresting, they also interrupt the rhythm of the game. It’s a bit of a shame, but it also fits in with the content, which turns out to be very limited. The seven levels are finished in less than an afternoon and the mini-games only add to the experience very concisely. There was no doubt better to do.
Paw Patrol saves the Big Valley is far from perfect, but an adaptation that will delight the little ones. We find the codes of the series and the colorful implementation will remind fans of the best moments of the cartoon series. Suffering from a limited lifespan and no-ambition sequences, however, this episode is an interesting linchpin for the future of the video game saga. For all of these reasons, we’re giving it a score of 12/20.
