Printing a document may take more or less depending on the length of the document and the type of printer we are using. To be able to see print progress This gives us a clear idea of how much extra time the printer needs to complete the task we gave it, let’s see how to do it.
The print queue: wait time and error report
Verifying the printing process is something that we will do from the print queue. This queue is accessible as we write. It appears as an icon representing our printer, in the Dock. A simple click on it directly opens the queue, but that’s not the only reason we need to pay attention to it, as this icon also shows a count of still pending tasks and we indicates possible errors in the printing process.
Let’s talk briefly about these mistakes, or rather, on the different states that can be seen in the icon:
- A red indicator with a number indicates the number of jobs remaining to be printed.
- A green symbol with a pause signal inside indicates that printing is paused.
- A yellow signal with an exclamation mark indicates an error in the process, it could range from lack of paper to the need for a new ink cartridge.
Well, having seen that, let’s open the print queue, which we will do with just one click on the icon. In the queue we will see a detailed list of all documents that are currently printing or that will be printed shortly. To the right of each of them we will see a small cross with which we can cancel printing and a small pause button to put it on hold temporarily. From this queue we can also access previous tasks that have already been done. It’s something that we’re gonna make touch View completed tasks On the menu Window or we press Command (⌘) + 2.
Everything is very easy until we realize that the print queue does not appear for some reason. Don’t worry, we can access it in the Apple () menu, choosing System Preferences, come in Printers and scanners and touch Open print queue.
Thanks to the print queue, whether we open it from the Dock or from System Preferences, we will be able to see a clear picture of the tasks the printer is performing and those that it has scheduled. Information that is supplemented by the possibility of canceling the tasks that we have sent. It is true that we print a lot less than a few years ago, but being able to effectively manage this printing is still important.
