Hi, how are you i’m the poem boy … not really i’m the usual guy, the heavyweight from wolfenstein iii. Those of you who are regular with Xbox Generation will have read me (or heard me in podcasts and GX Talks on Twitch) on more than one occasion defending tooth and nail that MachineGames is developing two projects at the same time: Indiana Jones , and confirmed, and another game that I always said is Wolfenstein III.
What they are with two projects seems to be a pretty clear reality, especially given the latest news we have had about the study. It is not so sure what Wolfentein II is, but it is a logical idea. Why Blazkowicz deserves a third installment.
Wolfenstein III, behind a dream since 2020
Let’s take a look at the past. The first time I spoke about this possibility was around Xbox Game Showcase 2020 (yes, where Craig was unveiled). He argued that by the tempos and usual pace of the study it made sense for Bethesda to go through the Microsoft lounge (beware, months before its purchase, mini point for me) and announce the long-awaited Wolfenstein III. Something that, as you can guess, didn’t happen.
The second, and equally disastrous, was for E3 2021. Yes, Bethesda introduced another new game, Redfall, which is one of my 2022 expected, but we had no record of Blazkowicz or the alternate world where the Nazis win World War II. Finally, and more recently, it was at the Game Awards 2021, where I also commented that I would finally like to see the game. But, as has happened with the new Bioshock and many other games, we end up with honey on our lips.
Having said that, and seeing my insistence and not giving up, I can only let myself fall into the arms of Christmas magic, New Year’s greetings, and ask Bethesda and MachineGames that this 2022 yes this is the year we see Wolfenstein III. May our dream and wish come true and may we have our long awaited third installment.
For the moment, now more than ever and with almost two years of a pandemic in between, it fits perfectly. Unsurprisingly, some business developer profiles indicate that they already have three years working on a new game. We know it’s not Indiana Jones because Todd Howard himself has stated that this is a project that is at a very early stage of development. In this sense, this project, which is already underway for four years, must be something else.
That this is Wolfenstein III is perhaps more of an illusion and a fan’s dream than a reality. But Christmas is that time when we allow ourselves to dream. And sometimes dreams come true.
