That’s it, here we are: 2022 will reach us and with it a lot of cultural works in anticipation. The world of comics is of course no exception, and we’ve put together the best releases of the next few weeks, with some cool superheroes on top of that. Enough to start the year on the right foot.
Star Wars: Knight Errant – The Complete
Certainly one of the great strengths of the Star Wars universe is that it supports one another with considerable backgrounds, which allows hundreds of stories to be spread over completely different time periods. This comic book called Knight Errant takes place 1000 years before the era of Luke Skywalker, when dark forces conquer the galaxy while a powerless republic cedes its facilities to the dreaded Sith. Not the best time to live in the world of Star Wars, especially for Kerra Hold, a young Jedi only 18 years old who will be focusing on the 256 pages or so of this book expected earlier this month. Desperate to save their camp, the adventures that await them will come as a great surprise.

Blade Runner 2029 – Tome 01
Blade Runner is a film institution and also a monument to science fiction, that is a known and recognized fact. Obviously, the franchise didn’t want to stop there and has already taken off in several formats: video games, an animated film, or even comics, like the one in question today. This first volume called Blade Runner 2029 takes us (unsurprisingly) into 2029 and follows the adventures of Ash, a Blade Runner who has to hunt down rebellious replicants in a futuristic and utterly dystopian Los Angeles. Obviously, some twists and turns await him in this story, written by Mike Johnson and Michael Green and designed by cartoonist Andres Guinaldo. A good opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Blade Runner and learn more in front of a warm fireplace.

Heroes Reborn – Tome 02
Released last month, Volume 01 of Heroes Reborn laid an honestly interesting foundation: the story takes place in a world where the Avengers don’t exist, but the villains are still rife … without really resembling the version that the everyone knows. The Supreme Squadron of America thus replaces the Avengers: Doctor Spectrum confronts Rocket Raccoon, Nighthawk the Goblin, while Power Princess ventures into the ruins of Asgard … Obviously there is a why and how for this story, which “after the events of the Avengers Universe “Was formulated, written by Jason Aaron (Wolverine Weapon X), Ryan Cady (Future State Justice League) and Steve Orlando (Batman Beond, Gotham Academy). The illustrations are by Ed McGuinness, Michele Bandini and Bernard Chang, designers who have worked on Superman, Venom and Green Lantern, respectively.

The boys – Total T01 to T07
We all know (well, almost) the excellent series The Boys, which was produced by Amazon for Prime Video and whose third season is seriously coming out. But before it became a hugely popular film project, it was mostly a pretty great comic book series, written by Garth Ennis in 2006, first drawn by Darick Robertson and published by Wildstorm, a DC Comics subsidiary. However, this particularly trashy story, in which superheroes use their powers to commit particularly inhuman crimes while enjoying their notoriety, will have forced DC Comics to cancel The Boys after just six volumes. The edition will therefore have continued without Wildstorm until 2012 with 72 episodes on the clock: with an incredibly cynical tone, a terrible violence and an original bias that pulls the superhero genre against the grain. , this is a little classic that you can completely find thanks to a very nice box.

Morbius: The Complete 1971-1975 (Volume 01)
It goes without saying that with the arrival of the film Morbius slated to hit theaters on January 28th (which will be included in the universe of Venom, with the imminent arrival of Kraven the Hunter and a certain Spider-Man), this very generous new edition seems opportune. This is a compilation of comics dedicated to the author Michael Morbius, a doctor afflicted by a terrible disease that he will cure with the help of an unstable scientific experiment: here he is endowed with superpowers that come straight from the skills of bats stand out … and even vampires, as an insatiable thirst for blood will drag him all the way. As the great historical villain of the weavers, Morbius delivers four years of comics in this book, from his first appearances to his diverse and varied stories, both in color and in black and white. What a culture can be rebuilt to better appreciate this dark character.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Legends
Star Wars has always been the subject of many comics, and it is certainly not January that deviates from the rule. This first volume, dedicated to the mythical Clone Wars, delves into the famous conflict from an unprecedented angle as the battle begins and the Republic slowly prepares to raise its arms. This damn generous comic book contains many tomes from the Clone Wars saga and focuses on many different stories, from Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker’s reaction to the war to the destructive will of the Separatists. An honestly generous compilation as it still has 424 pages, enough to have a good time in the relentless world of Star Wars.

Spider-Man VS Morbius
We’ve already told you, but this month seems ideal for discovering Morbius from all angles. Still being one of Peter Parker’s emblematic enemies, this book brings together three of their greatest encounters with a series of stories written by great Marvel authors such as Todd McFarflane, Roy Thomas or Paolo Rivera and designed by Gil Kane and Paolo Rivera. As a reminder, Morbius is undoubtedly one of the darkest and fiercest opponents of Spider-Man: Dr. Michael Morbius, who suffers from a seemingly incurable blood disease, manages to find a cure by relying on the DNA of bats … before unfortunately turning into a hateful character. Armed with incredible superpowers, but also an unfortunate thirst for blood, he will make life difficult in New York City more than once: note that a film is exclusively dedicated to him in which Jared Leto plays him at the end of January. These Spider-Man VS Morbius comics are therefore current.

Wonder Woman Infinite – Tome 01
As an iconic superhero in modern culture, Wonder Woman has never been as represented as it is these days. Obviously with the DC Comics and Gal Gadot films, but also recently with a new video game announced at the Game Awards 2021: In short, if you’ve ever wanted to take a closer look at this iconic character in comic book history, maybe you would this work “Infinite” fit well: Here our dear Diana wakes up without strength or memories in the midst of an eternal war. And above all, she is in the middle of Asgard, while the greatest warriors are doomed to fight there indefinitely: an openly dystopian field where the Yggdrasil tree is sick and the Valkyries are disappearing while Wonder Woman hears a voice that proposes … join Olympus. A wonderful program, signed by Beck Cloonan and Travis Moore, still on 256 pages.

Grendel
Grendel was created in 1982 and is an honestly famous comic that likes to mix several genres: that of the superhero, of course, but also cyberpunk or political fiction. The peculiarity of this psychological comic is that Grendel does not correspond to a certain individual, but to a “force” that embodies several characters in the course of the story. Several Grendels have replaced each other in several legends over the decades. In the case that interests us today, therefore, it is the very first version, that of Hunter Rose, that is tackled: assassin, novelist, bourgeois and fencer, this mysterious figure who controls the New York underworld is being pursued by the police, yes, but also the immortal werewolf Argent. A happy mess in which his adopted daughter Stacy turns out to be his only weak point in this huge manhunt. Grendel is an honestly generous comic with over 600 pages, written by the talented Richard Wagner and drawn by Tim Sale, that we cannot recommend enough.
