I look at my space bar in embarrassment. It’s just white. And yet it could be the absolutely beautiful work of the keycap maker, Hirosart, which features a diorama of Pokémon in their natural environment.
When it comes to keycaps, I’m next to the least qualified to comment on anything Kotakuwhile other members of the team are literally buried in things. To be honest, I’ve never seen the roll call. Until I saw Hirosart’s work (thanks, CBR). These not only contain beautifully crafted miniature Pokémon, but also their habitat around them, be it fiery, volcanic environments for Arcanine or Moltres, or coral-strewn seascapes for Squirtle or Milotic, all on a single key.
But it’s the spacebars that really took me away. The most striking with the original four starters Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur, each in its own setting. There is something else on the Etsy page, equally impressive, with Growlithe, Umbreon, Pikachu and Lapras. But what’s great is you can choose your own four – they appear to be entirely made to order.
Which explains the price to some extent. You see $ 50 + for a single key and north of $ 175 for a space bar. But also check out the details of these adorable, bespoke resin creations.
My keyboard isn’t nearly fancy enough to have keycaps – like some crazy old idiot who insists on writing books on a typewriter, I refuse to update from my crappy old Microsoft MultiMedia Keyboard 1.0A, which I get one of have worryingly dwindling stocks. (When they’re all gone, I’ll die.) Even so, I’m tempted to order one just to have it as an item. I would choose Mantine, Relaxo, Jynx and Cresselia.
It’s an odd pleasure looking through the reviews on the Etsy pagejust to see photos of the unique keys that were created for clients like this adorable suicune. These are really something very special.
