A few years ago, talking about 5.5 GHz in a serial processor sounded like a joke, but today Intel showed what could be the i9-12900KS and… This is really impressive.
Frequency is arguably one of the most critical points of current processors. We’ve spent nearly a decade in 4 GHz and it was only after AMD’s push hit ever higher heights, where Intel has always dominated the market. Now the blue giant’s next step is to compete for the performance crown with an absolutely mind-blowing processor.

Although this is from Intel’s own Twitter account where the data we are about to see was shown, no CPU appointments as such have been made, everything remains under wraps for the moment.
What you see here is very simple: one of the 5.5 GHz P-Core fully standard, while the remaining 7 cores remain at no less than 5.2 GHz, which is a truly impressive number considering the maturity and time of the Intel node 7 in the high performance market.

How far can it go and how cold?
It won’t be cool, that’s for sure, but from what we have seen with its current brother, it is possible that a core will reach us at a frequency of 6 GHz if the cooling is adequate. Its little brother hits those 5.5GHz with an overclocked core without too many issues, and even totally stable 5.8GHz figures have been seen, so expectations with this new processor and the supposed i9-12900KS are very high. .
To the point that if Intel’s binning is really good and after paying the additional cost of this CPU, very close or even round speeds could be reached. 6 GHz Completely stable 24/7 with matching cooling that dissipates the over 250 watts it should be consuming without too much hassle, which is no easy task even for the best custom liquid coolers.
Intel has not specified when this new CPU might be ready and as they say it has not revealed its name, but it is possible that this afternoon we will know more through the presentations it will make at CES 2022. .
Will it be possible to cool it with a good AIO of 360 mm by 420 mm? It is more than likely that it will, as there is evidence of similar data with more or less controlled temperatures.
