Nintendo is currently working on a new Mario Kart game, according to an industry analyst.
In fact, Mario House is said to be teasing the game sometime this year.
According to Dr. Serkan Toto of consultancy Kantan Games, the company is focused on the Japanese industry.
Dr. Toto told GI.biz that while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling well, Mario Kart 9 It is in “active development” and “emerging with a new twist”.
considering Mario Kart 8 Originally coming out on the Wii U in 2014, a new game in the series in development shouldn’t be too surprising—nor should the “new twist” surprise you. After all, Mario Kart 8 introduced anti-gravity to the game, allowing players to drive along walls and ceilings. It also adds the ability to bump into each other for brief boosts.
The best-selling Wii U game was subsequently enhanced on Switch and released as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Back in 2017, the Versus mode was expanded. It was also successful, becoming the Switch’s best-selling game. Together, these two versions have sold over 47 million copies worldwide, making them the best-selling racing game and one of the best-selling video games of all time.
Nintendo is always in close contact and doesn’t respond to rumors or speculation, instead it likes to announce games when they’re ready. It does like to make occasional teasers though, so maybe sometime around E3 we might hear something about it. Or, the company might completely surprise us and drop the news during a Nintendo Direct sometime this year.
