News culture Former DC spunk defends the Zack Snyder saga
Greg Silverman, the former head of Warner Bros., defends Zack Snyder and his DC Universe films and shares his opinion on why he thinks they have often been poorly received by critics.
Known as the director of Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen, Zack Snyder was the main designer of the DC Universe films when it all started in 2013.
Zack Snyder’s successor
He led first on the first two films in the franchise, Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, then on the films that followed the Justice Leagueto finish the project halfway. After Zack Snyder left, Joss Whedon took over to finish the film. Snyder became a controversial director whose talent should not be compared to that of his successor. Despite renewed interest in what has been dubbed SnyderVerse (the director’s original 5-movie version on the DC), Warner Bros. apparently has no interest in getting Snyder back into the franchise. Nonetheless, Zack Snyder has produced the most recent DC episodes, including Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad.
A question of personality?
Former Warner Bros. leader Greg Silverman is defending the often maligned filmmaker. In response to a fan who claimed that if anyone other than Zack Snyder directed Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman, the films would be critically acclaimed, Greg Silverman posted this post:
I always suspected that Zack’s friendliness, openness and enthusiasm created an environment in which critics underestimate his work. Being a humble and approachable person, he didn’t fit into the shape of an author. Shit. It should be the opposite.
I couldn’t agree more. My suspicion has always been that Zack’s open-mindedness and enthusiasm created an environment in which critics underestimate his work. Being a decent, approachable, humble person, he didn’t fit into the shape of a writer. Crappy. Should be the opposite. https://t.co/3OU3NC5CzL

Zack Snyder expected at the turn
Silverman is not the first to testify to the human qualities of Zack Snyder. His close friend and filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who worked with him on various episodes of DC, also described Snyder as personable and enthusiastic. Still, the actual quality of his films is independent of his character or personality: Snyder’s first two DC films were not well received by critics, and claims that Zack Snyder’s character led critics to underestimate his work makes him one of the most controversial Filmmakers today. Maybe his future films Rebel moon and Planet of the dead will manage to restore its image.
