Internet Personality, Boxer and Pokemon Fan Logan Paul made headlines last month Spend $3.5 million on a box of supposedly “sealed and authenticated” First Edition Pokémon cards. However, shortly after the announcement of his purchase, many in the Pokemon card community pointed out that the box was likely fake. In response, Paul drove to Chicago to check the cards and today he announced it was all fake. Paul spent all the money on crates full GI Joe Cards. *insert sad trumpet.mp3 here*
The internet celebrity, both loved and hated, shared the news on his YouTube channel today. In a video simply captioned “I lost $3,500,000 to fake Pokemon cardsPaul explains how he lost…well, all that money on fake cards.
“This story is fucking crazy. And it sucks. And I’m three and a half million dollars short,” Paul begins. What follows is a cleverly edited, well-crafted seven-minute video that basically boils down to Paul posting a massive L.
In it he documents all the websites covering his purchase of the cards and the quick response from the Pokemon Community claims he made a big mistake. Many thought the box was too cute to buy and didn’t trust it Exchange of baseball cards to check the cards carefully. After enough people pointed this out, Paul decided to check the cards himself at the BCE and documented his quick trip to Chicago to open and check the sealed boxes. In the video, a BCE representative explains why they authenticated the unopened boxes, pointing out how the packages are sealed and how they appear untampered with.
Finally, Paul pours a glass of wine and asks the BCE representative to open the crates. And if you read the headline of this blog, you already know what’s coming next. After the first unseal, it becomes apparent that the shells inside appear to be fake. “Too bloated,” someone says. Once the replacement Pokemon boxes are unpacked and opened, it becomes clear that Logan Paul just spent $3.5 million on a bunch GI Joe Cards. (For those scoring at home, that means he lost a lot of money.)
This is just the latest high-profile incident to date Pokemon card madness that has continues to sweep around the globe, leading to card shortages, Crowds cause chaos in shops and Rare card auction prices continue to skyrocket as more and more people try to get a piece of the pocket monster cake.
“It’s just so sad for everyone involved,” Paul said after learning the news. “It’s sad for them Pokemon Community how many fraudulent damn things are out there. I’m thankful for the things I have now that are real.” He later added, “We got fucked. End of the story.”
In other news, lol.
