It’s clear that PlayStation-exclusive games on PC are in huge demand. You don’t need to look at the numbers to come to this conclusion, but they do an excellent job of proving it.After the successful launch of Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, chances are slim god of war – Arguably the best of the three – can’t do better.
The PC version of God of War, released on Friday, January 14, is now officially Sony’s largest Steam release ever. The game attracted 73,529 concurrent players at its peak, enough to make it into the top ten at one point. That’s significantly higher than Horizon Zero Dawn’s concurrent peak of 56,557, and well ahead of Days Gone’s meager (by comparison) peak of 27,450.
Average Steam ratings paint a similar picture. God of War has an overwhelmingly positive rating of 97%, based on 9,095 user reviews in just a few days. In contrast, Horizon Zero Dawn received only a very positive rating of 84% based on 51,266 reviews. Based on 19,821 user reviews, Days Gone actually has a better rating of 91% (but still very positive).
Many of God of War’s user reviews address some of the issues we highlighted in our PC tech reviews. The lack of a FOV slider, exclusive fullscreen support, dedicated AA solutions, and more are just a few of them. That said, God of War for PC is also the most optimized of the three games, with hardly any issues to speak of—except for a weird Intel 12th Gen CPU bug that prevents the game from launching when the onboard GPU is on. Enabled – There’s already an experimental patch for something.
It’s worth remembering that all three games are also available on the Epic Games Store, which means the PC player base is likely to be larger, which bodes well for future releases. The next officially announced PlayStation-exclusive PC release is Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which includes Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: Lost Legacy. It doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but it should be in our hands this year.
