Instagram is strongly committed to consolidating itself against other competing platforms. So this week, the Meta-owned company finally started testing a monthly subscription model for its creators.
Subscriptions include access to special exclusive live streams, exclusive stories and a subscriber badge that will help them identify themselves in the creators message request folders in the inbox.
According to the information shared on his blog, for now the test will only be available in the United States, pricing tiers will range from $0.99 to $99.99 per month, and creators can select the price of their subscriptions, based on how valuable they think their content is.

To start the trial period for this potential feature, Instagram chose ten profiles, but says more will join in the coming months. The first group includes basketball player Sedona Prince, Olympian Jordan Chiles and astrologer Aliza Kelly.

Regarding this initiative, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote:
I’m excited to continue creating tools for creators to make a living doing creative work and to soon put those tools in the hands of more creators.”
Similarly, Instagram manager Adam Mosseri shared his expectations for Instagram followings, saying that followings are one of the best ways to influencers and creators have predictable income.
Regarding the benefit for Instagram, Instagram Product co-director Ashley Yuki said that the company won’t take any revenue sharing until at least 2023.
