Strange position: The CEO of GTA publisher Take-Two said in an interview with the US news portal CNBC a surprisingly positive perception of the Remaster collection. Strauss Zelnick described the disastrous launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition as Glitch
, the has been fixed
.
Financial journalist Jim Cramer pointed out to Zelnick that the game appeared buggy – and that it didn’t meet Take-Two’s self-imposed goal of only bringing games to market in a finished state. Zelnick then played it down and emphasized that the trilogy was not a new game, but a remaster. A mistake
had been fixed. In addition, we are happy about the success just great
was for the company.
The Europe translation of the relevant passage of the transcript:
And as far as the GTA trilogy goes, that wasn’t actually a new title. This was a remaster of existing titles. We had a glitch at the beginning [deutsch: Panne, Funktionsstörung], which has been fixed. And the title has just turned out great for the company. So we’re very excited.

Great contrast
Zelnick’s portrayal is in sharp contrast to the actual release state of GTA Trilogy. In our test, Markus Schwerdtel stumbled across numerous technical problems, which in the end played a large part in the poor rating of 58 points:
GTA Trilogy im Test
Definitely here is only the embarrassment
The remasters don’t get any better off in the international press: the rating cut up Metacritic is even only 49 out of 100 points. Metacritic users even give GTA Trilogy an abysmal 0.6 out of 10.
Although the developers, as Zelnick basically rightly pointed out, subsequently rolled out large patches with improvements for GTA Trilogy, some problems remain to this day. The generally optimistic portrayal of the Take-Two boss does not match the reality of many fans.
But at least they make it clear to investors and shareholders that the remasters at Take-Two are still considered a success from an economic point of view. But that should make disappointed players even more angry.
Much anger among players
In the reactions of the fans to the statement, for example on Reddit, shows a lot of indignation. Here players continue to complain about bugs and performance problems and feel alienated by the statements. In addition, several commentators now have the lost hope, that patches for the titles will follow to fix the remaining bugs.
We have at Rockstar, who ported the games to the Unreal Engine along with mobile developer Grove Street Games, asked for an opinion. If we get a response, we’ll update this article accordingly.
