Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, said that even though the company is considering what steps it will take in future console development, Sushch will focus more on the company for some time.
Addressing investors at Japan Q&A – translated by our friends more at a time VGC – Furukawa said:
Nintendo switchch will soon be on sale for three years. We see it is a different kind of console than the one we previously released. In addition to the Flagship Switch model, we have also released a Nintendo switchch Lite that can only be played as a handheld. This allows the user to choose a console that suits their lifestyle.
And we look at the current market and hear there are many different ways of thinking about the latest developments in the console. On the other hand, software is also very important. So in the short term, while the Nintendo switchch installation base continues to expand, it should put more focus on that. By placing our primary focus on Nintendo Switch, we feel we can have a very different (longer) computer life cycle than Nintendo's past.
Swingch has sold 52 million units since its launch in 2017, and is likely to be available to shoot over a total of 102.63 million Wii, making it a very successful Nintendo home console. However, to reach that goal, Nintendo has voluntarily offered its second pillar; at the same time the Wii was sending those kinds of sales figures, Nintendo DS was selling over 150 million units.
How will Nintendo maintain its interest in the long-term switchch lifecycle? Easy – with new software, and a focus on making sure new consumers are aware of past issues, according to Furukawa:
The most important thing (for us) is whether we can maintain the size of Nintendo Switch. In addition to continually adding new software, we believe it will be very important to continue our efforts to sell the titles we have released so far.
What do you do to Switch for longer duration? Let us know about the idea.
