This solution left the iPhone out of the equation!
The relationship between Apple and Tesla, two of the most important companies in the world, is not exactly what users of both brands would expect. However, a developer decided to respond to one of the most frequent user requests and allowed CarPlay works in a Tesla.
Polish developer Michał Gapiński, shared via his account Twitter how he managed to bring CarPlay to Tesla, but leaving the iPhone out of the equation. In its place, used a Raspberry Pi to play CarPlay interface, Apple Maps, plus Apple Music running, even in the background.
CarPlay is coming to Tesla in a very special way
To carry out his experiment, Gapiński used his Tesla Model 3 and a Raspberry Pi running custom Android firmware paired with an LTE modem and Wi-Fi hotspot. In the demo video shared on Twitter, One can see how the apps worked properly and the controls on the car’s steering wheel also interacted with the system.

After sharing his hack, this iOS developer claimed that the project is still in its infancy, and plans to make it available to more users when complete. His next steps are to make the user interface more fluid and responsive by improving the Wi-Fi connection between the Raspberry Pi development board and the car.
Currently, Most car manufacturers support CarPlay in their cars. Thus, Tesla’s omission is a notable exception. For now, we just have to wait for an agreement between the two companies to bring features to these cars.
