The Horizon Forbidden City Story trailer reintroduces us to some familiar faces

Only a few weeks left until we – finally – start cutting arrows and get our hands Horizon Forbidden West. To make sure we all get the proper hype, game station A new story trailer has been released, showing more of Aloy’s next big quest to uncharted lands.

Here’s the long and short of it; the world is dying, and all that is good and natural is poisoned and stifled by a mysterious new threat that can only seem to be stopped by Aloy. To slow nature’s decay (and inevitably save the world), our red-haired archer hero must head west – into a land forgotten by everyone Aloy knows, trace the source of this plague and stop the eternal “Erythema”.

Check out the trailer below.

Fortunately for Aloy, though, she won’t face these new difficulties alone. A pair of familiar faces from Zero Dawn characters Erend and Varl will accompany her on her journey, and Merry and Pippin will accompany her to her insatiably curious Frodo. The new trailer also shows that Sirens is returning, although the character will head west to work with the Regara, a warlike tribe seeking a way to control machines for their own demonic purposes.

In terms of new characters, we have Tilda; a mysterious woman dressed in silver and black, of which we know very little at the time of writing. Apparently she “has a special connection to the ancient past” – could she be a human who somehow experienced presenting the world as the apocalypse we see today? we do not know. What we do know, though, is that the character’s voice is none other than Carrie-Ann Moss (you might know Trinity from the Matrix movies better). We look forward to the gravitas she can bring to the game.

Released on PS5 and PS4, Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, and after several delays, it’s finally set to hit our consoles on February 18, 2022. You can check out which tribe you’ll be meeting in-game here, or you can gaze at new (and sometimes larger) robotic fauna at the link, such as the armadillo-shaped Rollerback, the flying Sunwing, and the snake-shaped Slitherfang .
