Amazon Games has launched a new update for New World which adds new endgame feature Expedition Mutators, combat balancing, increased gear score and more.
New World Update Introduces New Endgame Features, Fast Travel Changes, Increased Gear Score and More
The latest update for New World which went live today adds new additions to the MMORPG. This includes a new endgame feature called Expedition Mutators, further balance changes to combat, an increase to gear score, bug fixes and more. We’ll go over the major changes and additions in this article.
Endgame Content – Expedition Mutators
New World lacked some endgame content when it first launch, but Amazon are remedying the situation by adding a new feature called Expedition Mutators. This adds further challenges with an even bigger pay off according to the press release.
Expedition modifiers that affect “Normal” and “Named” enemies are found in Expeditions. This changes enemy encounters including how complex the enemies are and makes them more unpredictable.
Facing these new challenges will also reward new bespoke gear and resources, giving players more ways to power level. The unique combinations of Expeditions and Mutations will change each week on a rotation basis, with players working their way up the ladder of difficulty. In order to access a mutated version of an Expedition, players will need a Codex, plus a Mutated Expedition Tuning Orb (a one time reward) which is gained from running an Expedition in Regular Difficulty. Players can craft a Mutator Orb once per week, and can purchase further from the Faction Shop.
Mutation Effects: Elemental, Promotions and Curses
There are some interesting modifiers in rotation, including Elemental Mutations such as Hellfire and Eternal. Hellfire will engulf enemies in flames, causing burns to nearby players. While Eternal will inflict void to enemies, causing debuffs to players or even buff void-infused allies.
The addition of Promotions also puts a new spin on things, with mutations causing enemies to gain powerful new abilities. Savage will cause healing reduction and casting beams that will damage. Indomitable steals life from players as well as summoning a phalanx which can block incoming projectiles from players.
There are also Curses that will apply some negative effects to players such as Desiccated where players will time to time combust with elemental energy, needing to cleanse themselves to rid themselves of the debuff. Another is Censored which will cause players to lose mana regeneration, and they will need to lift this curse by entering a silence zone.
From the sounds of these modifiers to Expeditions, Amazon is working on making this type of content much more challenging, putting a higher emphasis on the need for players to work together in these modes, to come up with strategies to overcome the Mutation. This sounds a little similar to World of Warcraft with weekly modifiers applying certain debuffs which can cause havoc with certain roles in dungeons as well as the risk factor of losing a key/difficulty level if you fail. But as the combat is quite different from WoW, this could make some interesting situations especially with the action combat formula. It might be worth risk to dive into further difficulties in order to gain T5 gear for New World which has been added to the mutated version of Dynasty Shipyard.
