2019: One of the most complete months to month we remember
2019 is already coming to an end and it has given us to take a look at the list of great releases of the last 12 months; the truth is that it is not bad right? It seems that a wholeness has passed but some successes like Resident Evil 2 or Kingdom Hearts 3 have arrived at the stores this year.
The truth is that reviewing month by month a trend of recent years is met again: There are so many great releases that force companies to space them more and more. Years ago the summers were deserted and the big games were concentrated in just a couple of launch windows (spring and autumn). Today the summer months are not wasted, you just have to take a visa to the June, July or August games.
In that sense 2019 is one of the most complete years month by month what do we remember (except for December, which seems vetoed by all companies). This year we may not release games that define a decade (Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2 …), but we do many games that reach the outstanding.
Below you can see a list with 2019 highlights month to month:
January: Resident Evil 2, Life Is Strange 2, Kingdom Hearts III
February: Apex Legends, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, Metro Exodus, Anthem
March: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, The Division 2, Devil May Cry 5, Yoshi's Crafted World
April: Mortal Kombat 11, Days Gone, Katana ZERO
May: A Plague Tale: Innocence, RAGE 2
June: Judgment, Cadence Of Hyrule, Super Mario Maker 2, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
July: Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Dragon Quest Builders 2 (Switch)
August: Control, World of Warcraft Classic, Astral Chain
September: Gears 5, The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Borderlands 3
October: The Outer Worlds, Luigi's Mansion 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
November: Death Stranding, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Pokémon Sword and Shield
Big surprises
As is the norm in an industry that plays many millions of euros with each new release (and in which it becomes less and less risky) 2019 has been defined by continuations of known sagas. However also we have received totally new licenses
We talk about games like Control, The Outer Worlds, Judgment, Death Stranding, Astral Chain or Sekiro. Not all of them have had huge budgets to get ahead, but thanks to their good work they have finally convinced us. We will be very attentive to these sagas in the future.
The disappointments of the year
Not everything could go well this year, of course and surely the game that has finished paying the broken plates has been Anthem. The Bioware Destiny multiplayer project has ended up becoming a disaster to solve and a stain on the study file, one of the most beloved of video games in the last decade. Nor do we forget the fiasco of Crackdown 3
How have the previous years been? Does 2019 exceed them?
For us 2019 has been an outstanding year whose importance perhaps will be in the background when coming from two magnificent years like 2017 and 2018. As we said above, between the launches of this year we can't highlight a generational hit such as God of War, Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Red Dead Redemption 2, but the return of great sagas, with very solid games and some new licenses that have come to stay.
That is why we are left with the idea that 2019 has been a very complete year and a great average level of their games. Twelve outstanding months for players, with a lot of variety and A perfect prelude to what is to come in 2020, when the last great heavyweights of this generation await us, such as The Last of Us 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake or Cyberpunk 2077 (and who knows if The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2)
