A resourceful modder has turned his old Dreamcast into a custom PC.
A talented hobbyist from the Computer-Base-Community quickly transformed his old Sega Dreamcast into a custom PC with a retro look. It works like a normal PC, but looks like Sega’s old console. With the right emulator, he could even revive the old Sega classics in proper style.

Part 1: MAME, DOSBox, ScummVM
in one forum post the user Temujin123 explains how he came up with the idea for the project, how he implemented it and what the future of his Dreamcast PC should look like. Accordingly, he has not played demanding games for a long time, which is why he has switched to an APU, i.e. processor and graphics card in one chip from AMD.
When he then remembered the old Sega Dreamcast in the basement, he came up with the idea of implementing the custom PC. Without a dedicated graphics card, there should be enough space in the case. To keep the feeling of the old days, he even took a DVD drive out of an old laptop and used it for his custom PC.
He also used the following components:
- HELP: AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G
- Mainboard: ASRock X300M-STX
- RAM: 16 GB DDR4-3200
- Storage: 1 TByte Samsung SSD, 960 GByte Corsair SSD, 120 GByte Samsung SSD
- cooler: Noctua NH.L9a-AM4 CPU cooler
- DVD drive: Matishita DVD-RAM UJ8C0
The modder has cleverly accommodated all these components in his old Dreamcast. The DVD drive works as intended: the folding mechanism opens the console flap, revealing the drive. Now he can insert a DVD, which will be read as soon as he closes the flap again.

Temujin123 had already completed the first version of the retro case PC in mid-2021. However, that wasn’t good enough for him, which is why he made some improvements for the latest version of the case mod.
For example, he made a new front, a panel and other small parts individually for his build using a 3D printer.
While it doesn’t have the original look of the old Dreamcast when fully assembled, it does have its own console spin. We find the project exciting and would like to see more creative custom PCs. How the modder assembled the PC was documented in a YouTube video:
