On February 2, local police were dispatched in response to an attempted bank robbery in DeLand, Florida. According to witnesses at the scene, the man entered the bank with a Sonic the Hedgehog Mask and wielding a big hammer.
As reported by the West Volusian beaconOn February 2, a person (presumably a man based on his voice) entered the Florida Credit Union in DeLand, Florida wearing a Sonic mask, brandished a hammer, and demandedPick up money from the bank counter. According to people at the bank, the man hit the window separating the suspect from the teller with his hammer at the time. He continued to demand cash from the clerk while banging on the window multiple times.
Ano ther Florida Credit Union bank employee confronted the Sonic bandit and the suspect stopped slamming the window with his hammer and then escaped on foot before police arrived at the scene.
The credit union’s associate vice president of branch operations, Brian Leatherman, said West Volusian beacon that no one was injured in the brief robbery attempt and no money was stolen.
“Everyone is safe, nothing has been stolen and the local police are on the case,” Leatherman said.
After attempting to rob the place and escaping on foot, authorities searched the area for any sign of the suspect but he appeared to have rushed and they found nothing and no arrest has yet been made. DeLand police are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking people in the area to report anything they know about the suspect.
