If you’ve been to Kyoto, you might have made the trip to Nintendo’s headquarters– well, at least to stand in front of the gates.
The building is no longer new. But a newer one thread on 2ch
The 2 channel thread is titled “Nintendo’s headquarters in Kyoto lolololololololololol”. Below is a selection of comments:
“It’s simple and cool.”
“It seems like a prison.”
“It looks like a box.”
“It looks like a GameCube.”
“Koei Tecmo headquarters is cool. Please check it out on Google Maps.”
“Sometimes foreigners take photos in front of the sign.”
“It’s cool when the logo sign lights up [at night].”
“If you actually go there, you’ll be surprised that it’s in a hard-to-reach place.”
“Instead of settling in this industrial area, they should move to the Sakyo area or the Kita area.” (Ginkaku-ji or the Silver Pavilion Temple and Heian Shrine are in Sakyo. Kinkaku-ji or the Golden Pavilion is located themselves in the day care center area.)
“It looks like a house you would live in for now Minecraft.”
“You can see it from Kyoto Tower.”
“The surrounding area doesn’t look like Kyoto and was a disappointment.”
“It’s a bit lackluster.”
“When you come over at the weekend, the office lights are still on, and it’s a gloomy feeling of despair.”
“It looks like a house I built when I was just starting to play Minecraft.”
“Make something for kids to look at and admire.”
“It looks clean and tidy.”
“It doesn’t look like Kyoto at all.”
“Make it out of brick.”
“Every day I would run in front of it.”
“It’s boring, just like the games they make.”
“I went to university in Kyoto and have never been here.”
“That seems to make foreigners sad.”
“The surroundings are…”
“The companies that made the PS5 and Xbox are a lot more stylish.”
“It looks like a library, which is good.”
“It’s eerie that there’s nothing around [the company].”
“Isn’t it so high because it’s in Kyoto?” (Some parts of Kyoto have regulations about the height of buildings.)
“Because it’s modern, it’s good.”
“There’s really nothing around it. My grandmother’s house is nearby, and the only one nearby is a Japan Self-Defense Forces base.”
“The company I work for, Toyota, also has a lackluster building.”
“Do foreigners who come straight here after arriving at Kyoto Station despair and then join the forces of evil?”
“Was that made in Pokemon?”
“It destroys the whole beautiful scenery of Kyoto.”
“It looks like an American government office.”
“Less than headquartersthe surroundings are even more terrible.”
“It seems like it wouldn’t break if dropped.”
“I saw it once on a bus going from Kyoto Station to Itami Airport. It was easier than I thought it would be.”
“For a global company, it’s smaller than you think.”
“There is not enough playfulness.”
“Tofu Building.”
“Maybe it turns into something during an emergency?”
“Buildings are no longer interesting these days.”
I definitely agree with the last comment! Yes, Nintendo’s headquarters looks super boring, but maybe all the company’s creativity is in its games and not in its corporate kits?
