Do not disturb mode allows us to ensure that no notification will divert our attention on any of our devices. A very useful resource that we can also schedule to be activated and deactivated depending on the time of day.
Notifications yes, but at this time I better disconnect
Whether it is to be able to concentrate on our work or simply to disconnect from the bombardment that notifications can sometimes represent, the Do Not Disturb mode is very interesting. In iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS 12 Monterey, under Focus Modes, this Do Not Disturb has gained several additional features more interesting.
The first is that, by default, enabling Do Not Disturb mode on any of our devices activates it in the rest of them. The other is that we can program this mode to be activated and deactivated according to our needs. The steps for this are very simple, in particular the following:
- We open the application Settings on our iPhone or iPad.
- We entered Focus Modes.
- we touch Do not disturb.
- we touch Add a schedule or automation.
- we choose Time.
- We write the mode activation time in Fromdeactivation in A and we mark which days of the week we want it to be used.
- We press Okay.
On Mac, the steps are practically the same, although we will go to System Preferences instead of Settings. The exact steps to follow are:
- In the Apple () menu, we choose System Preferences.
- we touch Notifications and concentration.
- We enter the tab Concentration.
- In the left sidebar we choose Do not disturb.
- under the heading automatically activate we press + and we choose Add time-based automation.
- We write the mode activation time in Fromdeactivation in A and we mark which days of the week we want it to be used.
- We press Add.
Both on iPhone or iPad and on Mac we can add several schedules in the same day. We can also vary the schedule depending on the day of the week. So if we need Do Not Disturb mode to be on at certain times in the morning Monday through Wednesday and then at noon and afternoon the rest of the week, we can do that.
One of the many details of iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey that make it productivity-focused updates. The simple arrival of Focus Modes, with its flexibility in handling our notifications, has been a most interesting change. If we add to this the possibility of programming both the Do Not Disturb mode and the rest of the different modes, the comfort of the system becomes maximum.
And this is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of notifications, since, among other things, notification summaries also arrive to allow us a better management of all reviews. Undoubtedly ideal for maintaining our productivity without distractions.
