We tested MIUI 13 on the Xiaomi Pad 5, the Xiaomi tablet which, as we have already told you in its analysis, has a special version of the personalization layer oriented towards tablets and to take advantage of its format. elongated screen and its large size , and With this update, the Chinese company reaffirms its intention to add value to the world of tablets. MIUI 13 brings a lot of value to the Xiaomi Pad 5, and there are reasons to expect even more from the Cape.
More floating windows to boost multitasking
We might have expected PC Mode in MIUI 13, but the ability to create multiple floating windows with the applications you want, something similar to what this computer mode did but keeping the rest of the interface.
This new feature allows a much more complete multitasking experience when using multiple apps simultaneously. For example, if you’re collecting information on a topic, you can open Microsoft Word in the background while you have a PDF and a floating open Google Chrome tab to search for information.
MIUI 13 also offers the possibility to resize these floating windows to adapt its size to your needs. The possibilities with these changes become even wider than before, making the personalization layer a better ecosystem if you’re looking for a tablet for work or study.
Xiaomi’s new floating window system works in such a way that if you want to resize a specific window, you have to drag stitch in one of the corners.
On the other hand, you can swipe from top bar from the window to change its position or from the bottom bar to put it in full screen or close it permanently.
The wharf, more important than ever
Xiaomi has decided add new use to dock of the Xiaomi Pad, and that is, in part of it, to work as direct access to recent apps, but let’s go in parts.
The first thing you need to know is that now, in addition to the icons you left in the dock to access them on any page on the desktop, there will also be space for -at most- 3 icons on the for recent apps, which allows you to access it extremely quickly. As we said before, the changes are extremely geared towards multitasking.
The navigation gestures indicator has reappeared, even though you removed it, and it’s about implementing a new gesture shortcut system in which if you swipe up from either side of the indicator, the dock will show up next to these three recent apps, like a quick access.
The thing does not stop there, you can open the application you want in full screen or drag the icon of the applications you want opened as a floating window. To give you an idea, Xiaomi has turned it into a sort of toolbar for a desktop system.
The ability to open apps from the dock can make your job easier if you choose which apps to put there, because there are many situations in which by opening a small floating window, this is enough for you to get the information you want. A good example is checking the weather or a messaging app to see if you have a new message.
Very subtle design changes
If there’s anything that differentiates MIUI 13 from MIUI 12, it’s not the design. The company has been somewhat continuous with this version of the software, but that’s not a bad thing if we take into account that the previous version also had a design very adapted to the lines of Google.
Speaking of Google, MIUI is currently running on Android 11 on this Xiaomi Pad 5, although it should be updated in the near future to Android 12, the latest available version of the operating system.
Notifications on the lock screen are displayed already expanded and in slightly more stylized boxes which give it a great look, while notifications in the notification bar become centered and have a button to remove them all at once.
