Battlefleet Gothic: Armada
We start with the real-time strategy. Battlefleet Gothic: Armada was released on April 21, 2016 on PC only. French studio Tindalos Interactive directs this project inspired by the board game of the same name. With an epic and rich single player campaign, this installment proves faithful to the source material. It’s a perfect opportunity for fans to face the enemies of the galaxy led by Abaddon the Despoiler in a video game. As the commander of a destructive fleet, the player can play as different factions between Space Marines, Chaos, Tau and Orcs to control the Gothic sector of the galaxy.
Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition
Space Hulk: Deathwing is a 4-player co-op FPS in the style of Left 4 Dead. Released in 2018 and developed by Streum On Studio, you play as a space marine aiming to repel the Genestealer menace. As you win, you gain experience to unlock new weapons and devastating powers. Despite some technical weaknesses, the game stays very true to the atmosphere of Warhammer 40,000. Space Hulk: Deathwing lets you explore this futuristic universe with a heavy bolter in your hands.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War
We continue this selection with the trilogy Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. The first episode was released on PC on September 24, 2004. Developed by Relic Entertainment, one of the many studios behind the late publisher THQ, the title offers a true conversion of board games into video games. Inspired by Warcraft, Dawn of War is a real-time strategy game that has won over gamers and fans of the 40K franchise alike. Despite less interest in solo play, the game shines mainly through its online multiplayer. It’s up to you to dominate the battlefield at the helm of your regiments armed to the teeth.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
5 years later, the second episode of the series was released on February 20, 2009 on PC. The generation change of the engines is noticeable. As a matter of fact, Beginning of World War II Enjoy high-end graphics quality thanks to the Essence Engine. Taking players’ opinions into account, the developers have put more resources into the single-player campaign, which certainly doesn’t shine with finesse in writing, but still offers moments of pure heroism. The new production from Relic Entertainment also brings its share of high-quality movies and multiplayer that once again earns critical acclaim.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III
We’ll have to wait until 2017 to witness the conclusion of a trilogy that began 13 years ago. Beginning of the war III will be published by Sega this time but will retain Relic Entertainment to steer the project. The third installment in this video game series offers us a fusion of the qualities of the two previous games. The single player campaign is still just as epic, but the multiplayer mode is hard to convince. The factions available are much better balanced and their specificities have been thoroughly exploited to incorporate different game mechanics. The Dawn of War saga remains a must-read for fans of the Games Workshop franchise, but also for those new to this universe.
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius Relics of War
2018 was a golden year for the Warhammer 40K franchise. The independent company Proxy Studio is leading this re-adaptation. Warhammer 40,000: Gladius Relics of War is a 4X, this time a turn-based strategy game that lands us on the planet Gladius Prime. They lead one of the four factions available, namely Astra Militarum, Space Marines, Orcs or Necrons. Exploiting the peculiarities of each of them, you must explore uncharted territory, expand your borders, exploit the many resources hidden on this planet and, of course, exterminate your opponents. It’s up to you to use the best strategies to beat your opponents.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr was released the same year as Space Hulk, but this time developed by Neocore Games (The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing). This top-down action RPG puts you in control of an inquisitor whose goal is to purify the demons of chaos. You are in the galactic sector of Calligari, at the mercy of tribes cut off from the rest of the world. The game features a cooperative mode playable by up to four players in the form of secondary missions and of course a solo campaign to explore.
