Chaotic, character, people, Play

Hard to believe, but 8 years ago started with Pokémon on Twitch the phenomenon Twitch Plays, in which the stream chat quickly gets control of the respective game. Countless games have been played through chat since then – and now Elden Ring pretty much joins the list.

Reason is that Streamer Bruce Greene, who is currently immersing himself in the latest work from From Software, like many other hundreds of thousands of players. But of course he can’t play all day, because at some point he needs a little sleep. Luckily, there’s Twitch Chat – and it’s doing exactly as well as you can imagine.

Incidentally, Michi tells you in the test video why Elden Ring has become such a great game:

You can find more tips and tricks in our guide overview.

Twitch Plays Elden Ring – or it was called chaos

On Twitch, Bruce Greene connects his playthrough of Elden Ring with a so-called Subathon. This is a special event in which the running time of the stream is extended for each completed channel subscription. 50 percent of that income Greene also donates to the Red Cross and UNICEFto support the people of Ukraine.

Since the Subathon should run as long as possible, it needs constant entertainment. To do justice to this, Greene came up with a supposedly simple, albeit practical idea: While he sleeps, the Elden Ring chat can just keep playing for him.

No sooner said than done: As soon as Greene sleeps, suitably in a tent complete with an electric campfire, the chat with over 600 active participants takes control of Greene’s character. Using chat commands, they can walk through the world, fight, use items, and so on. What does that look like in action? Well, see for yourself:

Such situations are almost standard after the chat takes control. Admittedly, it doesn’t always end in death. Sometimes the chat even managed to kill one or the other opponent:

However, the probability that the chat will eventually play through Elden Ring completely without Greene’s intervention should not be too high. As is well known, the open game world of the current From-Software adventure offers a lot of dangers, where quick reactions are a must – maybe a mod could help.
