A release for the real-time strategy game was actually planned for March 17, 2022. Before that, first 2019, then 2020 was the annual target. After that, The Settlers was postponed indefinitely before resurfacing from obscurity in early 2022.

Ubisoft has not revealed how long fans will have to wait for a release this time. However, we appreciate that it is not just a matter of a few weeks.

Why Ubisoft is now postponing The Settlers

The team justified the postponement with the fact that the quality did not yet match their vision. That’s pretty vague, but you don’t have to be an oracle to understand the motives. Because the new orientation of The Settlers met with very little approval from many fans. Instead of a complex development game with numerous chains of goods and a lively environment, it became a more streamlined real-time strategy game.

Our own play session also showed that the game in its condition at the time didn’t cut a particularly good figure as an RTS. The selection of units was small, the balancing catastrophic and in general a game of The Settlers played much too sluggishly for dynamic multiplayer games. We have reported to you in detail about the exact problems of The Settlers. Series veteran Maurice in particular was completely disillusioned:

However, it should be noted that the single-player campaign was left out in the beta, and problems like the broken balance can certainly be corrected with feedback from the beta. At the same time, it’s going to be incredibly exciting to see how much Ubisoft will actually change about The Settlers.

After the announcement, we were already wondering how Ubisoft could still conjure up a decent game from this and whether it could all be done in less than three months. Now the development team has a little more time and that can only benefit the game.
