Actually tragic: Platinum Games and Square Enix was exactly the combination that gave us an exceptionally good action role-playing game in 2017 with Nier: Automata. Now appeared on March 03, 2022 her next work and hardly anyone noticed it.

Babylon’s Fall wants to expand the gameplay with online and service components, but seems to have gotten really bogged down in the process. It appeared as a full-price game for 70 dollars, harassed Players but still with aggressive microtransaction offers.

The digital deluxe version for 110 dollars does not contain all previous shop items or future DLCs, but only a handful of cosmetic knick-knacks, such as two capes.

Who missed it: The popular Nier: Automata received a patch four years after its release, which finally brought the PC version up to date with the others:

Nier Automata:

Will 2021 be as good as it should ever be

Hardly tested and hardly played

It is also noteworthy that the game on Metacritic at the time of writing this article one (negative) review. It seems as if the publisher Square Enix didn’t expect much and didn’t even start the usual advance machinery.

with less than 700 players on release day, the situation on Steam doesn’t look much different. Of course, the mega hit Elden Ring is currently bundling a lot of players in one place, but that alone doesn’t explain why Babylon’s Fall isn’t picking up at least thousands upon thousands of Nier fans.

If you want to see the game in action for yourself, take a look at the release trailer, which was released on time:

What are the players saying so far?

The opinion cut on Steam is currently a mixed 55 percent positive votes among the only 65 reviews given. While one player finds it quite entertaining as a »multiplayer bayonetta«, others choose less laudable words.

Many criticize the title’s no longer up-to-date look and it falls comparisons with the graphics of the Playstation 2 era. Others complain about the need to create an account with Square Enix and the associated region lock in some countries.

the most common criticism are by far the microtransactions, which also affect the equipment and level balance. It feels like a Free2Play game that you still have to pay full price for.

It remains to be seen whether developers and publishers will continue to take care of these things or whether they will intentionally forget about the game. We will of course keep you informed of further developments.
