What was already an open secret was officially confirmed a few weeks ago: The 2022 Call of Duty will be called Modern Warfare 2 and thus a kind of reinterpretation of the series offshoot of the same name from 2009.
Compared to its direct predecessor Call of Duty: Vanguard, players can of course expect some innovations and changes in terms of gameplay and features. The large fan community has already exchanged views on this topic on Reddit identified three things you definitely don’t want to see in Modern Warfare 2 again.
Less grind, return of factions
What’s on the community’s wish list? Three features of Vanguard in particular annoyed the fans, which is why it is not surprising that one wishes their abstinence in Modern Warfare 2:
- Less Weapon Grind: In Vanguard’s multiplayer mode, the weapon levels caused displeasure. Each gun could be upgraded up to level 70. But the XP required for this meant one thing above all: a lot of grinding, i.e. endless playing, unless you were enjoying the luxury of temporarily doubling experience points. So fans hopethat Modern Warfare 2 moves away from this feature again or at least makes leveling faster.
- Waiver of factions: In earlier Call of Dutys, players could join different factions, which also made the character models on the maps visually different from each other. In Vanguard, the developers ditched the factions and let players choose between skins. This often led to confusion and bizarre situations, such as when both teams looked the same down to the hair.
- The Team MVP Screen: Experienced Vanguard players will nod at this point knowingly and with a pained face. Because the MVP screen that appears after the end of each match (MVP =
most valuable player
in Europemost valuable player
) should be abolished for many fans. There are several reasons: You cannot skip the time-consuming screen, even if you are not interested in it. Also, the amount of XP you get as a reward for being MVP is ridiculously small and doesn’t even equate to a regular kill during a match.
Another feature that Modern Warfare 2 is also rumored to revise is skill-based matchmaking, or SBMM for short. You can find out what this is all about here:

Doors and windows should no longer be obstacles
And what about the thread creator? As you can see, the Reddit thread got a lot of participation. But what’s at the top of the thread creator’s hit list? He is most bothered by doors and windows. Not because of their very existence, which would be absurd after all, but because of their penchant for making traversal as difficult as possible for players.
Many deaths would come according to the thread creator solely due to the fact that gets stuck on doors and windowswhich is just annoying.

Apparently there is still a lot of catching up to do in the game engine’s collision query. In addition, at such bottlenecks on the map, the problem should arise again and again that another player is in the door or window frame and does not move.
It remains to be seen if developer Infinity Ward actually fixes some of these points in Modern Warfare 2. Incidentally, the entire Call of Duty franchise could also change, namely through the new owner Microsoft. At least that’s what Phil thinks, who sees this as a huge opportunity for the brand.
Reddit is all well and good, but what about the GameStar community? What features would you like to see in Modern Warfare 2, and what aspects of Vanguard would you like to miss out on? Write us your opinion in the comments!
