Actually, The Settlers was supposed to appear on March 17th. After the more or less devastating feedback after the beta, Ubisoft is now stepping on the brakes – with good reason.
Things just don’t go that smoothly with The Settlers. Announced in 2018, the game was supposed to be released at the end of 2019, was then postponed to 2020 and, after a longer break in January, was given March 17, 2022 as the release date. A closed beta in advance should whet the appetite and get final feedback.
However, the appetite thing went pretty haywire, as the feedback from the beta players was rather scathing. The gameplay of the settler reboot has been greatly simplified and streamlined, the pace increased and the focus placed on combat and real-time strategy. And that didn’t go over well with the fans.
Ubisoft has now drawn the consequences and postponed the title. In a statement on Twitter, reviewing the feedback from the beta, it’s clear that the quality of the game so far hasn’t been aligned with the team’s vision. It was therefore decided to postpone the release.
The additional time should be used to further improve the game and to focus on its quality. A new date for the release has not been named, but they want to keep the players up to date and comment in due course.
