maybe the event Performance Overview that Apple celebrated on March 8 served to announce new colors and models of iPhone and iPad, but the title clearly referred to the new M1 Ultra chip and the first computer to use it: the Mac Studio.
With faster processor performance than even the top-end 28-core Mac Pro, Mac Studio is a deceptively small machine that combines the compact computing experience of the Mac mini with some of the most impressive features to date.
When will Mac Studio be released?
Apple didn’t just showcase the Mac Studio and Studio Display at its event Performance Overview of this March 8, but this same day has already put both products on sale.
In fact, for now they can only be reserved and purchased in advance, since the official sale will not take place until next Friday. March 18
This refers to launch dates in markets such as Europe. At the moment we do not know when it will go on sale in Mexico and the rest of the Latin American countries.
How much will the Mac Studio cost?
We know the price of the Mac Studio in Europe and Mexico. Although, as always, you can customize and tune it to your liking, there is a base price for the model with the M1 Max chip and the model with the M1 Ultra chip:
- Mac Studio (M1 Max): $2,329 / MXN$51,999
- Mac Studio (M1 Ultra): $4,629 / MXN$106,999
On the other hand, the new Studio Display can be purchased from $1,779 / MXN$39,999. If you prefer the model with nano-textured glass (instead of standard glass), the price goes up to $2,029 / MXN$47,999.
What features does Mac Studio offer?
The introduction of Mac Studio follows the introduction of the company’s new M1 Ultra chip: a new version of chipset which even surpasses the M1 Max, introduced last year with the MacBook Pro.
Made from a single block of aluminum, the Mac Studio looks like a Mac mini, but it’s taller at 7.75 inches2 and a height of 9.5 cm. According to Apple, it’s specially designed to “fit most screens”.
As for the ports, we see a power socket located in the center of the rear panel, accompanied by four Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm “Pro” audio jack, ” f or high-impedance headphones or external amplified speakers”, as well as WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.
Depending on whether you opt for the M1 Max or M1 Ultra model, the two front-mounted USB-C ports are compatible with USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt 4 (offering 10 Gb/s or 40 Gb/s respectively), as well as a SDXC (UHS-II) card reader.
