A passionate community has been gathering around the rock-hard games from Dark Souls developers From Software since the first part, creating new challenges with increasingly unusual controllers.
After trying out commercially available devices such as steering wheels, dance mats or Donkey Kong bongos, some of the players went on to devise their own control methods and dig deep into their bag of tricks to do so.
The streamer and self-proclaimed “controller bender” SuperLouis64 recently moved eleven Bananas out of that box, wired them together, and tricked Elden Ring into thinking it was a Playstation 4 gamepad. Then he went out and beat up Godrick, the game’s first demigod boss, for which he only needed a good 30 minutes despite the fruity handicap.
He then uploaded the relevant clip to Twitter, but anyone who would like to watch the full stream can find it here Twitch

The special: The mix of motion and button controls only responds when he’s constantly kicking his legs. To attack, he squeezes the ring and – because they are a must for any leg workout – is cured with squats.
Despite this sweaty control method, he managed to defeat numerous bosses, including the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. His movement patterns are considered particularly chaotic and yet SuperLouis defeated him in just one attempt.
Our Souls expert, with a penchant for bluntly describing his numerous gaming traumas, can only smile about such tricks. In his report after 80 hours in the open world of Elden Ring, he tells you in his usual rough tone why he didn’t need the new comfort but still loves it:
