EVO 2022 Organisers have announced the list of competitions that will be part of the annual event.
This year’s titles are: Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy Versus, Guilty Gear – Struggle, Melted Blood: Lumina Genre, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate, Skull Girl: Second Encore, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Tekken 7 and King of Fighters 15.
Notably, Super Smash Bros is not on the list. The game was not part of this year’s lineup, having been revealed back in February.
According to EVO organizersNintendo declined to participate this year.
“We wanted to let you know in advance that Super Smash Bros. will not be reappearing,” the notice reads. “Since 2007, we’ve seen historic Super Smash Bros. moments created at EVO events. We regret that Nintendo chose not to continue that tradition with us this year.
“In the future, we hope to once again celebrate the Super Smash Bros. community with them.”
Partly canceled due to the pandemic, EVO 2020 will feature Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Controversy also swirled around that year’s event when organizers had to cancel Joey “Mr.” The Witcher’ Cuellar is from the company after multiple allegations of pedophilia and sexual harassment.
The following year, the event went fully digital due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, and 2021 is also the year Sony bought the event. Some speculate that Sony’s acquisition of EVO is related to Nintendo’s exit.
EVO 2022 will be held August 5-7 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
