Somehow IG-11 returned: A report by MakingStarWars According to reports, IG-11 will return in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. As you may recall, the former assassination droid was knocked out by Din Djar in in Season 1, only to be reactivated by mechanic Kuiil (Nick Nolte) and made into a caretaker of Baby Yoda
However, in the fight against Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and his Imperial troops, IG-11 sacrificed himself to save the lives of the Mandalorian and his followers. In Season 2, this selfless act was then honored by Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) with a statue of IG-11 on the planet Nevarro.
A Hulkbuster for Grogu: However, IG-11 is not intended to return in the form as we already know it. Instead, the story from MakingStarWars describes the droid acting as a Beskar-enhanced exoskeleton for Grogu, as the little wretch more or less controls it. In a described fight against stormtroopers, the scene is said to be reminiscent of Iron Man, in which IG-11 communicates with Grogu like the artificial intelligence Jarvis.
Is this really IG-11? It can currently still be speculated whether it is the new
assassin droids is really IG-11. According to the MakingStarWars report, at least that’s what he’s called, and Taika Waititi is once again lending his voice to the droid. That it is another IG of the same series is just as possible.
