After confirming its launch during the last keynote and after weeks of betas, Apple has finally released iOS 15.4 final and stable for everyone. Its older sibling, iPadOS 15.4, is also available now. These releases bring important news and finish fulfilling everything that was promised during WWDC21. Yes, Apple took nine months to do so.
All the news of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4
The most important novelty of iOS 15.4 is undoubtedly Universal control, which finally appears and is combined with macOS 12.3 to be able to use several iPads and Macs with just a keyboard and a mouse without having to configure anything. This feature appeared in previous betas, but so far it was gone before the respective stable releases arrived.
Another novelty that deserves to be highlighted is the possibility of use Face ID to unlock iPhone with mask. You have to go through another Face ID process, but Apple has managed to find a way to be able to do this unlock without scanning our nose or mouth and without depending on an Apple Watch. Surely for this reason alone, many people will want to download this update, but beware: it only works on iPhone 12 or later. We were able to test it last month and it works very well.
And it may not be as necessary now due to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, but iOS 15.4 also allows include the vaccination certificate in the Wallet app simply by reading its QR code and without depending on sites such as the Ministry of Health in Europe.
Apple also released watchOS 8.5, tvOS 15.4 and a new 15.4 firmware for HomePods. The update covers almost all of the company’s devices, so there’s an afternoon of backing up and updating everything.
