Paramount’s latest take on video game movies — Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – The premiere is less than a month away. To bring more hype to the project, the studio released a new trailer and (more importantly) a new poster for the film.
As you can see from the comparison of the image embedded below and the title of this page, the folks at Paramount have taken inspiration from classic Sonic art. The poster design mimics classic Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic 2 art, with Robotnik’s little angry face boiling in the corner, while Sonic and Tails stand proudly in the foreground. If you look closely, you’ll see that Knuckles is hiding there too.
You can also check out the movie’s new trailer below – Sonic, Tars, and Dr. Robotnik, along with Edith Elba as Knuckles, all run wild on the Chaos Emerald.
“After settling in Green Mountain, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to keep him at home while they go on vacation,” reads the film’s synopsis.
“However, as soon as they left, Dr. Robotnik returned, this time with new partner Knuckles in search of the emeralds that could build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teamed up with his old buddy Tars, and together they set out on a journey to find grandmothers Green’s journey, lest it fall into the wrong hands.”
If this leaves you all dumbfounded, recalling the “golden age” of Sonic gaming, don’t worry: last year, Sega announced Sonic Origins – a game featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog Compilation game featuring Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. This is the first time in a long time we’ve seen a proper re-release of Sonic 3, so it’s nice to see the beat of the story getting some love in the Sonic Extended Universe (I can’t believe I just wrote that one) .
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits screens in April.
