Starting in the late ’90s, the Matrix movies didn’t just let that Leather coat sales explode. No, they also intrigued us with their perfectly choreographed hand-to-hand combat and wondering if we’d even notice if our reality was really just a stunningly real computer simulation.
It’s all the more unfortunate that this question only made it onto our computer screens three times, and those appearances consisted of two mediocre action games and a short-lived MMO. Some fans of the films no longer wanted to accept this state of affairs and quickly turned the beating hit Sifu into a matrix game.
You can read in his test and suffering report why it was precisely this title that drove our otherwise hardened colleague Dimitry Halley to the brink of despair at times:
Sifu in the test:

Do you hear that, Mr Anderson?
The modder Halfmiliz had barely had his Neo-Mod published on Nexusthe response from the community was so great that in the following weeks he added three more, including one for the sounds of battle known from the movies. In the meantime, together with the work of a second hobbyist, they form »The Matrix Mods Pack«.
You fight in it as Neo in his iconic Ascended outfit (including the physically correct flapping tail of his cloak) against countless Agent Smiths. A reshade provides the typical green color filter and even the UI has been adapted to the style of the films.
The levels remain the same though, but if you didn’t know the base game, you would hardly notice that the lobbies, hallways and outdoor areas are not taken directly from the film matrix. The maker presents the complete package to you in a cinematic showcase trailer, which is based on the second part of the series (Matrix Reloaded) in terms of music and content:

By the way: The project “The Matrix Awakens”, which appeared for the fourth film, was little more than an elaborate tech demo of the Unreal 5 engine at the end of 2021, but impressively demonstrated where the open world journey is going in the future.
There were already interesting Matrix mods for Max Payne back then. Which ones do you remember particularly fondly and how much do you wish for a real new Matrix game? Tell us in the comments!
