NOMAD Base One, the most premium charging base

base, charging, Nomad, Premium

There are many charging bases, but today we try a unique load base by design, materials and performance. The new NOMAD Base One is the MagSafe base that Apple never made, and we show it to you.

MagSafe certification, which is not nothing

The arrival of the MagSafe system has meant a change in iPhone wireless charging bases, and we already have countless models compatible with MagSafe, which allows us to place the device much more easily. But “MagSafe Compatible” is one thing and “MagSafe Certified” is another..This last seal is the one that can be seen on the NOMAD Base One box and it is a seal that not everyone carries.

Being a “MagSafe Certified” docking station means that it has passed all of Apple’s checks and requirements to allow your iPhone to recognize this docking station as safe and secure. enable 15W wireless fast charging. Conventional wireless charging only reaches 7.5W on the iPhone, and only with Apple’s official MagSafe can it reach 15W. Belkin charger can be added to official Apple chargers , and now this NOMAD Base One, a feat within reach of few.

Very high-end materials and design

Base One is an unconventional charging base. It is made of strong metal and glass. This metal structure gives it a weight of 515 grams, which considering the small size of the base, it is a lot of weight. The top is glass, not plastic, and in the middle is the MagSafe charger, with enough elevation that the camera module won’t touch the glass even if you’re not wearing a case.

At the base you need to add a two-meter long USB-C to USB-C cable in braided nylon. This is the typical NOMAD cable, of very good quality and very resistant. We have two basic colors, black and white, and how could it be otherwise, each one comes with a cable of the same color. What’s missing in the box? The mains adapter. It is true that we are used to chargers not being included in the boxes, but I think this base deserved to be included.

The power adapter we use must meet several conditions for it to work properly. Most important, must have a power of at least 30W so that the base can deliver the 15W of wireless charging it promises. I tried with 18W and 20W chargers, and it’s not that it charges slower, it’s that it doesn’t charge anything. With a 30W, everything is perfect. Obviously it has to be a charger with a USB-C connection, but that’s almost taken for granted at this point.

flawless operation

A foundation of this quality must absolutely work perfectly, and it does. The magnet in the MagSafe system is really strong, stronger than either Apple’s own MagSafe cable, or the MagSafe Duo base I’ve been using for months. It’s impossible to misplace your iPhone on this dock because the magnet puts your hand and iPhone in the perfect position. And delete the iPhone? Well, no problem, because the heavy weight of the base means you can remove the phone with one hand without the base lifting or buckling.

When you place the iPhone you hear the sound of the MagSafe system followed by the animation that only the official MagSafe system causes on the screen, confirmation that you’re getting 15W fast charging. It’s not as fast charging as with a 20W cable and charger, but it’s pretty close. If you need a big boost in a short time, this base is the best alternative to cable, something some of us have long forgotten about.

Editor’s review

The new NOMAD Base One is the MagSafe base that Apple should have made and never did. For materials, finish, design and performance, there is currently no similar basis on the market, and it also includes MagSafe certification, which very few manufacturers can boast of. Obviously, this is a high price to pay: $129 on the NOMAD website (link) in one of two colors. Hopefully soon on Amazon and Macnificos.
