Now that The Quarry officially announced, I’m super excited to share what I and the rest of the Supermassive Games team have been working on. Our next spooky cinematic horror game takes place at an idyllic summer camp called Hackett’s Quarry. On the final night of camp, our teenage caregivers are thrown into an unpredictable night of terror and unexpectedly find themselves being hunted by blood-soaked locals and something far more sinister. How this interactive story unfolds will be shaped by the choices you make while playing as each of the advisors, whether in friendly conversations when things are quiet or in frightening situations as the night progresses. Throughout the game you will be faced with unimaginable decisions and there is no right or wrong answer – you just need to know that the fate of the camp counselors is in your hands.

We have a total of nine playable characters; Teens who have been counselors all summer and want to unwind and party together before getting back to their everyday lives. That assumes, of course, that they survive (and there’s no guarantee that either of them will). Teen horror movie fans will definitely recognize some classic archetypes when they first meet these characters, although there’s more to them than meets the eye. I think where The QuarryThe brand of interactive horror is characterized by the myriad ways in which these characters’ personalities can change over the course of the story—your story.

Every action and decision you make has consequences, many of which are not immediately apparent. It’s not just the choices you make when faced with peril that dramatically affect the story: simple, seemingly insignificant interactions between characters matter too. There’s a butterfly effect in what you say and do, and you’re never quite sure when you’re between a rock and a tricky spot and could be facing a real dilemma. Regardless of the choices you make or the paths you don’t take, the story continues, with a variety of possible outcomes when things spiral out of control.

In order to really bring the whole experience to life, we put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that the game’s presentation – and even the character actors and actresses themselves – are of the highest quality. The cinematic quality of this teenage horror story is underscored by the Hollywood talent portraying the counselors and other key characters The Quarry. It was amazing to see actors like David Arquette, Ariel Winter, Brenda Song, Lance Henriksen and Ted Raimi – to name a few – really bring our characters to life, not only with their incredible voice work but also with their physical performance We are able to incorporate the game using the most modern detection techniques. Combined with traditional filmmaking skills and a cinematographer working on every take, the cast’s performances make for a truly cinematic experience that is sure to leave you spellbound.

We know that experiencing a gripping horror story with friends can be even more fun, so we’ve evolved The Quarry in this sense from day one. You can play with your friends in two unique ways: a local pass-the-controller mode where each player controls one or more specific advisors, and an online mode (same console generation only) where decisions are made by voting will. If you find that some of the choices you have to make are nearly impossible in solo mode, just wait until you’re confronted with them in multiplayer mode, where the story is shaped by the whole party.

For those of you who prefer to sit back and watch a captivating horror story unfold, we’ve also included a Movie Mode option. Here you can choose which of several versions you want to view; and there’s even an option to customize each character’s traits, so you can press play and see how your movie unfolds! Any character can be the star of the show – or die before it gets light.

The Quarry will be available on June 10 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. All of us at Supermassive Games are excited for you to get your hands on it, and we can’t wait to hear how your summer camp stories turn out! As the motto of Hackett’s Quarry summer camp goes, what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.
