During the great strategy game of Paradox Crusader Kings III Set centuries before the present day and therefore little could be done after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the development team found a way to make a change and that is the spelling of the game.
how we saw yesterday STALKER 2Paradox took advantage of increased post-war scrutiny and awareness of differences in Russian and Ukrainian spelling to change a major city’s name from Kyiv as it was traditionally spelled Crusader Kings III
Why does that matter? Like this piece on The guard explained:
As Russian forces threaten the Ukrainian capital and thousands flee, the least viewers around the world can do is learn how to say the name of the besieged city.
The short answer is simple: Ukrainians call their capital “Kyiv” (kee-yiv), the spelling is a transliteration of Ukrainian Київ. The Russian version is “Kyiv” (kee-yev).
The latter, based on a transliteration from the Russian Cyrillic Киев, became the internationally accepted name during the Soviet period and up until the early years of this century, though its recognition was perhaps enhanced by the chicken dish of the same name
which became popular in the West in the 1970s.But it is now associated with the Russification of Ukraineand in recent years more and more publications, governments, airports and geographic dictionaries have switched the spelling to the Ukrainian variant.
The change actually happened on March 10th, but there are sometimes a lot of patch notes to go through with this game and I just noticed after seeing this tweet earlier today
Because this is Crusader Kings IIIand we’re talking patch notesI couldn’t say goodbye to this blog without sharing some of the other highlights of the update, including:
Fixed sick characters wearing helmets and hoods with their nightgowns
Adjusted effect of performance-enhancing drugs
Removed Anglo-Saxon ID 90029 = “Edith” was Hereward’s mother’s name, not his wife’s. Added Dutch ID (pending) = ‘Turfida’ was his actual wife, raised in Saint-Omer.
Fatimah is now guaranteed religious traits
Cathars no longer believe in ritual suicide and now believe in reincarnation
Correct the malnutrition and instead send the toast that you’ve become obese.
Inventory button is now hidden for dead characters
