After GT7 was unplayable for over 24 hours on PS4 and PS5, the servers have been brought back online. The dispute over the economy is likely to continue for a long time.
The last maintenance for Gran Turismo 7 released after update 1.07 turned into a fiasco. The game was unplayable for more than 24 hours? Why ? It’s still blurry. On the other hand, the problems with the microtransactions remain even after the servers are restored.
An inaccessible game, even solo
Following the release of update 1.07, Polyphony Digital encountered an issue that required servicing. Nothing unusual until then, except that this lockdown lasted more than 24 hours with no real explanation given. And the catch is that Gran Turismo 7 wasn’t even playable offline as it required a login. Only Arcade and Rally Music modes were accessible. But obviously it was very tenuous and ultimately blocked any real progress.
Gran Turismo 7: The hell of microtransactions?
Since its launch, Gran Turismo 7 has been the subject of concern and criticism regarding the investment required to unlock or upgrade cars. We drew attention to the topic in our test.
And with patch 1.07, Polyphony Digital has further reduced the number of credits received after a win, resulting in a more intense grind than before…which would encourage virtual pilots to use microtransactions. Here’s the rub, as the game is being sold at the regular price and not as free-to-play. This makes us feel like we’re reliving what happened with Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Les Apologies by Kazunori Yamauchi
Normally, Gran Turismo is back for PlayStation 5 and 4. Creator Kazunori Yamauchi apologized and then explained that the problem discovered with patch 1.07 could not be identified upstream. But for the game’s economy, it’s not certain that the changes will happen any time soon.
In GT7, I want players to be able to enjoy lots of cars and races, even without resorting to microtransactions. At the same time, the price of cars is an important element that shows their value and rarity, so I think it needs to be aligned with real prices.
I want Gran Turismo 7 to be a game where you can enjoy a wide variety of cars and if possible, I want to try to avoid a situation where a player has to repeat the same events over and over again.
We will update you in due course on our plans for additional content, adding race events, and other features that will constructively resolve this issue..
Gran Turismo 7 is available for PS5 and PS4.
