They all love what is extraordinary about their homeland.

They are oases of relaxation, paradises on earth. Sometimes a staged backdrop of absolutist power, sometimes hidden behind high walls: gardens and parks created by ingenious landscape architects, nurtured and cared for by experienced gardeners and inquisitive researchers. “Garden Paradise in the Southwest” is a journey of discovery to eight of the most beautiful gardens and stately parks in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.
The journey begins in Weinheim in the Hermannshof show and sighting garden with its 2000 different types of perennials, leads via the Maulbronn monastery complex with its famous herb garden to a masterpiece of European late Baroque, the palace gardens of Schwetzingen. The program discovers unknown places, such as the romantic Stolzenfels Castle on the Rhine, and roams through the extensive Luisenpark in Mannheim; intended from the outset as a resort and as a play and leisure facility for everyone. In the Rosensteinpark Stuttgart, the well-known pairs of parrots that have lived there for over 30 years can be observed. The Wilhelma is right next to it. It is both a botanical and a zoological garden and is therefore unique in Germany. In addition to the animals, the large tropical water lilies can be admired in the central pool of the Moorish Garden.
For one year, the gardeners, owners and visitors of the blooming paradise will be accompanied, looked behind the scenes of the staging of this splendor and shown what it means then and now to preserve it. Because gardens and parks reflect the relationship to nature, are retreats for recreation and shelters for endangered animals and plants. And by the way, gardens and parks are also part of the trend towards a love of nature and sustainability.
