Indie digital storefront Itch.io has raised over $6 million through its recently ended Bundle for Ukraine charity package. In the meantime, The similarly large collection of games and comics from Humble Bundle has already raised over $6 million and has six days left until it ends. This is a huge amount of money, all of which will support people who are suffering during the terrible Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The first live bundle was created by Necrosoft Games director Brandon Sheffield. This bundle was available on Itch.io from March 7th, gathering almost 1,000 games into one huge bundle. And people could get all of these games – valued at around $6,500 – for just $10. A darn good deal and for a good cause as all funds raised through the Ukraine bundle will be used to support two groups: The International Medical Corps and Voices of Children.
Originally, the bundle had a comparatively small goal of $100,000. That goal was quickly surpassed, and after just 24 hours, the indie package had already raised just over $1.5 million. It ended yesterday and reached a grand total of $6,370,557.
In the meantime, Another Bundle, this one by Humble Bundle, was also organized and launched to provide much needed support to Ukraine during the ongoing and deadly invasion. Like the Itch bundle, it comes with a massive amount of games – nearly 100 – including titles like Back 4 Blood, Fable, Metro Exodus, Quantum Break, PGA Tour 2K21, Kerbal Space Program, and Amnesia.
As I write this now The package has already exceeded $6 million. Considering the incredible selection of games on offer and the fact that the whole thing only costs $40, I suspect this bundle will fetch well over $6 million by the time it’s completed in a week’s time.
Add both and that’s over $12 million to charity! (And as I just mentioned, The Humble Bundle will likely increase that number even more by next week.)
The ongoing, illegal iRussia’s invasion of Ukraine has left thousands dead, many of whom have fled the country as rockets bombard their homes and cities. As a result, several countries, including the United States, put pressure on Russia and Putin with economic sanctions. And as the invasion continues, many private companies are also withdrawing from Russia.
These huge, discounted charity packages have quickly become a popular way for people to band together and support others on a large scale. A similarly large games package was already offered online in 2020 Itch’s Racial Justice and Equality Package.. This charity collection raised an impressive sum $8,149,814 for two organizations: the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund.
