Microsoft was reportedly aware of Moon Studios’ problems and has decided not to release the next game.
Serious reports are currently circulating about Moon Studios, the developer of the Ori games. Some former employees spoke up and reported a toxic working atmosphere.
According to further reports, Microsoft was informed about this oppressive working atmosphere some time ago and then decided against further cooperation.
Officially, Thomas Mahler, co-founder of Moon Studios and head of Ori games, has announced that the reason is that they want to release a multiplatform title for a larger audience. But now it seems that other reasons were also at play.
Shortly after VentureBeat’s article was published, Jez Corden from Windows Central spoke up. He confirmed the report, adding that Moon Studios co-founders Gennadiy Korol and the aforementioned Thomas Mahler have resorted to “personal attacks and bullying on the Xbox team” and “cut all ties with them.”

“Microsoft knows very well what this company is like, and when they were done with Ori 2, there was a reason Private Division would release their next game and not Microsoft,” Grubb said. “I was explicitly told this morning that Microsoft is aware and everyone understands that this company is who they are. So it’s not some kind of ‘oh, those are just some jokes that happen on Discord’ thing. This studio had a reputation and it hurt them financially because they had to make a deal with Private Division instead of making another big deal with MS and that affects everyone in this company.”
