Surely you have heard music more than once and thought “What is the name of this song?”. Before we had smartphones, you could only ask someone who was with you, or learn to sing it or hum it to ask someone else later. But since we have phones with the built-in Google search engine that has moved into the background. This is already one of the many features and tricks of the Google app.
Know what song is playing near you with the Google Assistant
In the early days of Android, apps started to emerge that had very specific uses. For example, for the case that interests us, we have created Shazam, an app that had a huge database that let us buy what our microphone was picking up and compare it to give us the title of a song. Today it is still one of the many ways to recognize a song with the mobile.
But as always, Google decided that it was going to integrate such a striking function within its search engine. Specifically, the Google Assistant is used to perform the search, with a very simple command. When we listen to the song, we must say one of these phrases:
- “Ok Google, what song is playing?”
- “Ok Google, what does it look like?”
- “Ok Google, what song is this?
Obviously we can open the assistant application with the corresponding icon and type it with the keyboard, if we prefer.
This feature is also available on devices like smart speakers and smart displays, but you have to take into account that if music is playing from that same device, it will be paused. So it works if you listen to it from TV, another player, mobile…
Recognize songs with the Google app
