Google is making increasing efforts to locate and remove apps infected with malware, Trojans, and other types of malicious software that can be developed to attack Android phones. But although it detects many threats, others pass under their radar and are slow to disappear. Along the way, many are affected by all that these programs are capable of doing without the user’s consent.
Now, from Doctor Web and Bleeping Computer, they warn about the presence of a many-faced Trojan, the one known as Android.FaceApp which has been modified to bypass different operating system security measures . And in addition, they provide a list of applications that are infected and that we should eliminate if we have them on our mobile phone. Our money is in danger because of them, but also our personal information.
Remove these applications as soon as possible: they are infected
Doctor Web even talks about Android.FakeApp as the “threat of the month” and warns that it has been circling Google Play since January and evading Google’s security and tracking measures for the Android App Store. The stars of the latest iteration Android.Spy.4498 and it seems to have already infected several applications from the store, in addition to being installed in fake applications that promise benefits such as improving the WhatsApp experience.
Bleeping Computer tells us about these same threats as well as “putting a face” on its creator. This is the developer Tsaragorotseva and has several applications in circulation with the Trojan on board. A Trojan able to participate in scams that can cost us a good amount of money, in addition to collecting personal information that we store on our phone for future malicious use.
There are already several malware and trojans that continue to circulate through Google Play
Both sites reiterate the presence of these Trojans on board apps such as GBWhatsApp, OBWhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus. These are supposed add-ons for WhatsApp which provide advanced functions and of course are unofficial. The mods promise to let us add WhatsApp widgets to our phone’s desktop, block calls, and even hide our WhatsApp status. They are all fake and serve as a vehicle for Trojan horses to land on our cell phones.
We always recommend to be very careful when installing applications that are in unofficial repositories, because we run the risk of introducing malware to our phone. But when such software is introduced via Google Play, the gravity is even greater. We do not know if Google has already managed to solve the threats but, in case, we leave you the list of apps you need to uninstall from your mobile phone as soon as possible.
