Only today there is a crazy horror game

Crazy, game, Horror, Today

Update from March 24, 2022: The weekend is already a glimmer of hope on the horizon, which is why you should quickly find suitable game food for the time of rest. How about In Sound Mind? Haven’t heard of it yet? Then you should definitely read on!

Because the psychological horror trip revolves around the individual fears of the changing protagonists and (almost) completely dispenses with jump scares. Have you tasted blood now? All other information about the gameplay and of course how to get the game for free from Epic can be found in the following lines.

Original message: When was the last time you really shuddered? Except for the morning look in the mirror after another night that was far too short. If it’s been a while, then this week’s free play at Epic might be for you.

In Sound Mind is a first-person psychological horror trip that puts you in the shoes of a different character in each story chapter and focuses its game mechanics on their fears. It offers subtle scary fun that tells an exciting conspiracy story and largely dispenses with jump scares.

Until when can I grab it? The promotion runs from March 17th to 24th and requires a free account with Epic Games. The start and end times are 4:00 p.m. If you access within this window, you can keep the game forever.

What’s in it? You get the game in the basic version, i.e. without the soundtrack of »The Living Tombstone« or the art book. You won’t miss any game content in this version.

Is that something for you? As usual, we will now introduce you to the title in more detail and classify which type of player it is particularly suitable for.

We recently asked the inventor of Resident Evil personally what makes a good horror game. You can read his exciting answers to these and other questions in our exclusive interview:

What is real horror?

This is what you can expect in the free game

You travel through bizarre memories with the help of an old tape recorder and uncover a conspiracy step by step. At its heart is a mysterious chemical that seems to affect everything and everyone around you.

Along the way you’ll solve genre-typical puzzles and overcome tricky boss fights, but exactly how both work depends on which protagonist you’re playing. The story is divided into the different cassettes and depending on which one you insert, not only the main character changes, but also the most prominent mechanics.

While Virginia’s story and gameplay elements revolve around mirrors, Allen’s fears and gameplay challenges center around light and darkness. You then defeat the bosses of the chapters, also taking into account these mechanical deviations.

The developers were inspired by Resident Evil and the Ravenholm section of Half-Life 2. The latter is not surprising, since they started their careers as hobbyists for Valve’s megahit and received a lot of praise for their mod Nightmare House 2.

During Gamescom 2020, we spoke to Ido Tal, the game’s producer, who answered some questions about the game about moving images:

Who is In Sound Mind suitable for?

Horror fans with a heart for small indie titles should check out this game precisely because of its deviations to the big competition not to be missed. It’s by no means perfect and has its moments of frustration, but if you can get over them, you won’t regret the trip.

In Sound Mind strives for the flair of classic horror games from 10-15 years ago and would rather scare you with its immersive mechanics than clumsy jump scares, even if the latter are used selectively.

By the way, the soundtrack is another outstanding feature and contributes noticeably to the dense atmosphere. He comes with a surprising amount of singing for a game and lets himself listen to YouTube.
