The Notes application offers many possibilities and is waiting for you on our devices to take full advantage of it.
There are applications that, due to their characteristics, are completely essential. Notes are part of it. It’s a native application that has been with us since 2007, when the iPhone appeared on the scene. What might not initially seem like a simple filler app, is currently one with its own character and used by millions of users every day. In this article, we will see the main features of Notes, as it is, what use can you make of it and also know some alternative applications that can complement what this incombustible iOS does.
Notes: the app that will never die
Notes was born from a simple request, serve as a quick support for the user so that he can write down any idea that comes to his mind. Normally they give you an email address or phone number and you have to find a place to put it.
But there is no doubt that Notes is now a great application. In my particular case, it is one of those essentials that I use almost every day. I use practically for almost everything, good proof of this are the more than 60 notes that I have currently written. And we can say that there is everything, and according to some photos, ideas that come to me to write or, why not, passwords. Yes, Notes allows you to lock those you want so that they are specially protected.
To encrypt a note and protect it with a password, all you have to do is press the padlock that appears in the upper right corner and choose a password. On devices with Face ID, protected notes are unlocked through this system, and on phones that use Touch ID, by swiping a finger. In the rest, you will have to write the password that you have previously chosen.
And it is that this application is found natively on many brand devices, such as the iPhone, iPad or Mac. Thanks to your iCloud account, you can have all your notes available on all your devices, such that if you write a note on the iPhone, it will automatically appear on the iPad or Mac, this is notably one of the advantages of using Notes.
In 2017, when iOS 11 came out, Notes got a major boost from Apple. It has become much more versatile and powerful, which has led many people to use alternative applications, eventually ended up permanently in Notes.
Notes is simplicity itself, any user can use them immediately for practical things such as write the shopping list, take an idea on the fly or write a long text which you can then edit in another program.
The app also has the ability to generate titles, subtitles, include links and add photos. It’s a simple text editor for any type of circumstance, even supporting Apple Pencil and compatible devices. Writing freehand on the notes app remains an enjoyable experience for those who enjoy reading their own handwriting on screen.
With notes, you can organize all your thoughts, ideas or projects in folders. For example, the “work” folder gives the location to all the notes related to your job, if you create one that is passwords, it’s the same. The possibilities are limitless.
Since iOS 15, you have the possibility to create smart folders, to which you can add the label you want. This way, grouping them will be much easier. To make a label, you only have to put the pound sign # AND the chosen term, such as “work”.
Alternative apps to notes
If for some reason you need something other than Notes, you can find the answer in the following apps. To tell the truth, and since the Notes application received the 2017 update, I see no reason to look for alternatives, but these are some of the proposals that you can download on your device.
Evernote
post it
Paper by Dropbox
If you still don’t use the Notes app much, now is the time to make the most of it. Its possibilities are practically endless, and it is an indispensable aid in all circumstances. Notes is, in its own right, an application that will never cease to be native. The simplicity of useful applications is demonstrated in an application of these characteristics. And being native, it has no additional cost or premium features.
