The much-criticized multiplayer shooter Battlefield 2042 does not have an easy time in the community. Many critics even deny the game the basic design characteristics of a good Battlefield and advocate stomping.
EA DICE doesn’t seem to want to throw in the towel just yet. So the developers collected a lot of feedback from players to iron out the existing weaknesses of Battlefield 2042. One of the big construction sites is the map design. Now they give a detailed insight into how they want to improve the levels.
There’s a lot of truth in the players’ criticism. Battlefield 2042 appeared unfinished, as our test video shows:

Battlefield 2042 – Release Verdict: Unfinished and out with it!
More cover, less idle
The huge 128-player maps were a big promotional promise, but one that read better on paper than it manifested in played reality. Minutes of walking and hardly any cover between the target points often caused frustration and slowed down the fun of the game.
In a new one blog post EA DICE shows how they want to improve the two particularly hard-hit maps, Kaleidoscope and New Beginning. The BF Bulletin fan page summarizes the images of the new objectives, alignment and covers:

We see more cargo containers and other objects at the target points and various open areas. In addition, DICE moves the destination points closer together on the maps in order to shorten the walking distance between them.
The changes are scheduled to be released in the summer as part of Season 1.
Can Battlefield 2042 still be saved?
It remains questionable whether Battlefield 2042 can turn around again with this cadence. On average, only 2,000 players play at the same time on Steam. While it could be the case that many players will still give the shooter a chance if there are major improvements, this is by no means certain.
Season 1 for BF2042 is scheduled to start much later in summer 2022. That’s the remaining hope of those fans who haven’t written off the game yet. Meanwhile, leaks about Battlefield 7, which is said to have gone into pre-production, have already appeared on the Internet:
