We recently talked about Blizzard Entertainment’s latest shooter event. However, we did not mention something that had gone unnoticed until now. This is a change to some of Zarya’s designs from Overwatch, as it no longer has the characteristic ‘Z’ on the chest, which means something very dark in the current context.
The discovery was recently published in Reddit. According to the author, the ‘Arctic’ and ‘Siberian Front’ skins previously had the letter ‘Z’ for Zarya on the chest, something that was quietly removed in the latest update.
It seems that Activision Blizzard has wanted to “heal itself in health” and not give space to more criticism due to to all the scandals in which has been focus in the last few months. It seems that a ‘Z’ is not much, but the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine has forced the company to be more cautious and delete everything related to it. Yes, the ‘Z’ has become a very controversial symbol this year.
Overwatch: What does that ‘Z’ on Zarya’s chest mean?
Numerous sources have explained the appearance of numerous ‘Z’ letters on Russian buildings, streets and vehicles, especially military ones. As indicated, the ‘Z’ has become a symbol of support for the war and even propaganda
This, of course, is just a bad coincidence. In Zarya’s design, the ‘Z’ is just the initial of his name. This character already existed before the trend started.
As mentioned before, Activision Blizzard made no mention of this change. It is believed that this ‘Z’ will become another hate symbol similar to the case of the swastika, whose origin has nothing to do with World War II.
