announced, Hearts, Kingdom, trailer

What a day for Kingdom Hearts fans. Many had prayed for the announcement of a new album and their wish was granted. Kingdom Hearts 4 has just been unveiled with a trailer setting the tone.

Many had predicted a big announcement for Kingdom Hearts’ 20th anniversary, but few could have anticipated such an announcement. Square Enix has released the first trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 and there is envy.

Kingdom Hearts 4 announced

We hoped for it almost in vain and it happened. The Kingdom Hearts license celebrated its 20th anniversary (yes) with a physical event in Shibuya. Some were able to visit an exhibition tracing the history of the saga, which mixed licenses from Square Enix and Disney with some artwork. A closed conference then followed where Japanese fans could preview the Kingdom Hearts 4 announcement.

The news first broke on Twitter, where some guests confirmed that the fourth canonical episode of the adventures of Sora, Donald and Goofy was revealed for the occasion and that a trailer will be released shortly. Just mortals had to wait, but the trailer is finally here! And be careful if you haven’t done KH3, it spoils a lot.

A more realistic and darker universe

change of tone. The Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer shows a more serious universe than previous games. We find there the world of Quadratum revealed in the third opus. Some veteran fans have predicted it, the Verum Rex game is a reality. Peek into the world of Toy Story through a “fake” trailer featuring a character named Yozora who closely resembles a cross between Riku and Noctis, the deceased protagonist of FF Versus that became Final Fantasy 15.

Despite a more realistic universe, Sora, Goofy, Donald and Organization XIII will always be there. No release windows or platforms have been announced. We’ll certainly have to be patient before we learn more details about Kingdom Hearts 4. In any case, it’s very similar to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which Nomura never got the chance to do.
